Satan is active.
Porn is bad, let me make that clear now. It should also be illegal.1 It’s an industry bent around the desires of the flesh and around abusing the wiring of men and women around the world to make rich sex offenders even richer, further pushing pro-desire culture. It is also an extremely abusive industry for the individuals who are a part of it, destroying their bodies for the pleasures of higher ups and sinners for a quick hit of cash, or more often than we want to know, substances that they can’t escape from.2 One massive industry fueled by addiction of others from the inside and out just so the person on top can have all the money in the world.
You wouldn’t know that from the way the cultural mindset speaks on it. Based on what the many articles speaking on how it’s healthy, that porn stars are definitely happy with what they’re doing, and that porn is actually an affirming thing, you’d think porn is actually a plus for society. It’s not. It’s really not.
We live in a me-first culture. It’s about my truth. It’s about my way. It’s about what I want, and if I don’t get what I want, that’s actually not a healthy thing for me at all. If I don’t feed my flesh, how am I supposed to be pleasured? How am I supposed to temporarily fill the void in my heart that nothing else can? It’s not like there’s something out there that could fill that void…
The public mindset on pornography was made even more obvious this past week. Steam updated its developer agreement and now it says this:
Content that may violate the rules and standards set forth by Steam’s payment processors and related card networks and banks, or internet network providers. In particular, certain kinds of adult only content.
Here’s the new rules more specifically laid out.
Thousands of sexually explicit games are now banned from Steam. This is a very good thing! I’m actually very happy about this!
…Too bad no one else is.
Reporters and gamers alike are crying out to Steam (and itch.io, which as of yesterday implemented a similar ban) to unban this for the sake of “free speech.” I even heard one person in a Discord I’m a part of say this is “deeply demoralizing.” We’re talking about the same thing…right? Having pornography…taken? Is demoralizing? After everything I just said…
Also, a funny note I’d like to add is the fact that a lot of the responses I’ve seen say something along the lines of “I’m not into that, BUT IF I WAS.” No one is really owning up to actually watching porn, but why? Why would you be ashamed of that in this culture? Why would you be supporting others in their use of pornography but not owning up to using it yourself? Do you think…*gasp*…pornography is a bad thing???
Or…is it conviction? Being creations of God, those morals are still built into us from birth. Maybe sexually explicit content is still embarrassing in your eyes. Maybe God is still active. I know the devil is.
Please send out a prayer for the gaming community as a whole at this moment. This is dark, dark stuff and I just pray that these people can have their eyes opened to the dark pits of mire they’re falling deeper and deeper into.
If you’re a believer who is struggling with pornography, first of all count these events as a win for you, and second, there are many resources available to you nowadays that I personally would love to send you in the direction towards. Send me a dm, we can talk for a bit and I’ll send you towards some of the things that do the most good in my eyes. You’re not alone. Keep pushing through. God is on your side.
